Why?

As a student you will be matched with a mentor in the south west digital tech industry, our mentors have not agreed to donate a fixed amount of time and therefore it is up to you to help build a relationship to get the most out of the experience.

This project is led by students for students and is designed to help connect the student community to industry. The project is currently restricted to Plymouth University students during launch which means that currently the availability of mentors in the south west is high.

We are steadily recruiting mentors, but we would like to ask for your help in promoting the project as a means to help yourself and the student community of the University of Plymouth.

We run this project part time alongside our studies and other commitments, if you would like to get involved with the project or other feedback, please send us an email to: [email protected]

Tips

  • Industry buddies are volunteers who do not get paid to be involved in this service. Please be respectful and only ask them relevent questions, they are doing this out of their spare time.

  • Please do your research and ask thoughtful questions, this project is not intended to be a replacement for communities such as stack overflow etc.

  • You are only matched with one mentor, so try and make a good impression.

  • We recommend you introduce yourself on first connection and ask how frequently the mentor is available to speak with you and what social media (if any) they would like to connect on.

  • Set up a reminder on your preffered system to check in with your mentor regularly.

  • We will only change your mentor in special circumstances. If you for some reason you wish to change mentors, please email [email protected] stating your reason(s) why and we will review your situation.
